David Connor has been working in the entertainment industry for over thirty years in operational, technical, and managerial roles. This depth of experience gives him an unusually broad perspective on sound and the audio industry, and the ability to see issues clearly from all sides. His strength is delivering a balanced outcome from a broad base of experience and problem solving capacity.
The main thrust of work is electro-acoustic engineering: the science of how sound systems interact with their environment, and the design and implementation of sound systems for large entertainment venues such as stadiums and theatres: from setting the standards as the consultant, to meeting them as system designer.
David started his career mixing live sound for theatre and concerts, working with many of the great international artists of the time.
In 1981 he returned to his training and formed Elecoustics Pty Ltd, an engineering consulting firm specialising in loudspeaker design and electro-acoustics, winning awards for both product and system design.
Over the next ten years he simultaneously worked as a free lance recording engineer, recording music for film and release in most major studios in Sydney, gaining a number of awards for sound recording and production.
In 1994 David accepted the role of Sound Manager for The Sydney Opera House where he became Technical Manager accountable for the delivery of Sound, AV, and Electronics services for over 2400 shows per year. This saw him managing a crew of 30, and being responsible for all technical upgrades and maintenance within The House.
The Sydney Olympics called in 1999 and Indigo Systems Pty Ltd was born, delivering audio design, acoustic design, project management, and staffing for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Homebush Bay site wide sound system.
After the Olympics, David was engaged by a German electronics manufacturer to deliver large-scale audio and electro-acoustic projects in Malaysia and Singapore. Following this he moved to Germany where he specialised in electro-acoustic design for stadia in the Middle East.
David currently consults in electro-acoustic and audio system design for theatre, stadia, and performance spaces.
We need to realize that the analysis of data is not enough. We can find in the data only reflections of the ideas we already hold. This arises directly from the nature of perception. So our reliance on analysis for decision-making is inadequate.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
